This is a crucial season for college admission. In the spring, colleges are after all high school seniors and want them to attend their schools in the fall. This year campuses were closed and visits dried up. Accepted student time on campus for orientations have not occurred. How many will enroll is only based on past years’ data, not this one. Some colleges will either close or merge.
I want you to know what is happening in 2020 in admissions.
Many families were planning on spring trips to help make the final decision. That is not possible now. A virtual tour is about all you can get. Many have extended their deadline from May 1 to June 1. Among them are BSC, UA, UAB Check with your institution to make sure.
Finally for those wanting to get an early start or continue in summer school, many schools are having online only. You should check with the institution before enrolling.

JUNIORS
IF you are a junior and wanted to make those visits this summer, check with your school. They will certainly allow that if at all possible. Take a deep breath Juniors. You will be okay. Keep up the academics and all of the things that make you shine. You will be okay.

- The number of families that can afford to pay for a 4 year degree is diminishing. Parents have been laid off or cut entirely. The gap between what a parent can afford and the cost is getting larger.
- Many college endowments have dwindled greatly.
- At this time according to one survey, the indication is that approximately 30% of those asked say they are now looking closer to home Some don’t want to chance losing tuition and some say they want to be closer to home because they are afraid of getting the virus. And to be fair 29% think people are overacting.
